Heather, aka The Botanical Hiker, is a Certified Herbalist, long-distance hiker and author. She has thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail, North Carolina's 1200 mile Mountains to Sea Trail (twice) and set the record as the first person to hike the 1,000 mile Finger Lakes Trail System in one continuous trek. When not woods rambling or pulling back the petals on a botanical find, she educates and guides others into the natural world through orkshops and guided hikes. Last Spring, she published her second book in her Botanical Hiker Series: A Guide to the Edible and Medicinal Plants of the Finger Lakes Trail. We are excited to have Sarah Berman and Corey Finck of The Armstrong Farm in Augusta NJ, here to begin the production of Shiitake mushrooms. The process of planting a mushroom is called inoculation and early spring is the time to do it! We invite you to join us for an afternoon of inoculation. Learn everything you need to know to start your own backyard mushroom logs. Help inoculate logs for the farm or take one home!
Visit Corey and Sarah in the Chef's Garden between 11am-4pm.
Observe, participate, learn! No cost to take part in the inoculation.
If you would like to purchase a log to bring home, cost is $25 per log - either pre-inoculated or make your own.
