They’ve been spread by boat, by bird, by botanist—an overview of the wide array of non-native invasive plants in New Jersey that are affecting landscapes, biodiversity—and possibly you, if you get too close!
Wade and Sharon Wander are self-employed environmental consultants who are principally involved in wetland investigations and permitting. They have long been active New Jersey naturalists, interested in birds, herptiles, plants, and butterflies (as well as moths and other insects). They frequently lead field trips and present programs for the New Jersey Butterfly Club, of which both are past presidents. They especially enjoy their Fredon Township, Sussex County, butterfly garden, which consists mainly of native plants and has attracted 84 species of butterflies; they have also recorded more than 1,100 species of moths on their property. Both are members of the Natural Heritage Committee of the Highlands Coalition. Sharon is a Trustee of the Ridge and Valley Conservancy and has served on the most recent New Jersey state committee assembled to evaluate the conservation status of New Jersey butterflies. Wade and Sharon have compiled the Springdale, NJ, Fourth of July butterfly count since 1992.
Begins at 7pm in the Crystal Springs Clubhouse. Complimentary to all Social Members.
